Statistics provide important information that can support your coursework and research. As part of your studies you may need to find, access and use statistical data. 

Below are some recommended resources that are a good starting place in your search for statistics, however this is only a small sample of the resources we have available and you should also visit your subject page where you will find additional subject specific databases.

Eurostat is the statistical office of the European Union and its task is to provide the European Union with statistics at European level that enable comparisons between countries and regions.


Search for and compare companies, industries and economies across the world.  Covers 120 industry sectors, 753,000+companies, 200 countries, and 3,000 cities. Includes macroeconomic, industry, company, advertising, jobs, and product launch databases. Analysis comprises company/industry/sector reports, analyst option, macroeconomic, and thematic reports.

Use this site to find Government information from departments, publications or statistics.
H.M. Treasury is particularly useful for publications and statistics.

This gives a wide range of statistics on population, education, (un)employment, agriculture, industry, motor vehicles, railways, TV and radio etc.

Data can be viewed as PDF (downloadable) or Excel format which can then be exported. Make sure to use the "Search within book" option, not Spinger's general search box at the top of the screen.

The UK’s largest independent producer of official statistics. Responsible for collecting and publishing statistics related to the economy, population and society at national, regional, and local levels.


The world’s largest database for public policy, with more than 3.2 million reports, working papers, policy briefs and data sources from more than 24,000 international organisations, NGOs, think tanks, and research centres. Topics include education, health, housing, local government, international relations, business, industries etc. and all areas of the world are covered. Use options in Advanced Search if you want to search specific countries.

Whilst the UK data sets cover such areas as employment, and family expenditure, the international data sets from major bodies such as the IMF, OECD and World Bank are well worth exploring - often giving information down to country level (previously ESDS).
