Research Data Support

What support is available?

The Research Data Officer, Dr Gary Pike, is a part of the Research Outputs Team based in the University Library. He is available to offer RDM advice to academic staff at any stage of a project. Please feel free to contact him at researchdata@port.ac.uk.

Gary also works with the Research and Innovation Services (RIS) Grants Team, where he reviews the Data Management Plan (DMP) component of funding applications that are being processed by the Peer Review College (PRC). Further information on guidance about the PRC can be found on the RIS Application Process page.

Academics are welcome to seek advice at any stage of the application process, but you are strongly encouraged to seek advice at the initial drafting stage of the project, the earlier the better. There may also be specialist advice available in your department, faculty or externally in your discipline.

DMPonline and the DCC

The internationally recognised Digital Curation Centre (DCC) is a government funded organisation aimed at assisting researchers with all things RDM related. It provides an overview of RDM topics and useful checklists.

It also includes the free DMPonline tool, which provides data management plan templates and guidance for major UK funders, as well as generic guidance for all other projects (including our own UoP staff and PhD DMP templates).

We strongly recommend that you use the DMPonline tool.
